About Dan

Dan is a cartoonist living in beautiful and humid St. Louis, MO. He was born during the Nixon administration and is the second youngest of eight artistically inclined siblings. Dan grew up reading old Peanuts collections that his mom would pick up at garage sales along with his outfits. Her enthusiasm for comics, combined with her ignoring the impracticality of it as a career, inspired Dan to keep on drawing.

His cartooning ways began in earnest at Indiana University, where he majored in business and minored in doing a comic strip for The Daily Student newspaper.  Entitled College, the strip became a hit on campus and earned Dan fifteen dollars per week. Its feature character, Implosion Boy, disrupted the student elections by winning as a populist, write-in candidate.  Following graduation, Dan self-syndicated his strip to twenty-five college newspapers across the country.

His current strip, Steve, earned Dan a Finetoon Fellowship honor (developmental deal) from the Washington Post Writers Group. During the year-long program he developed his feature with input from editors and cartoonists of the Writers Group. The fellowship also included trips to learn about the business, legal and technical aspects of cartoon syndication.

Dan has likewise contributed his unique, lively illustrations to children’s books, magazines and ad agencies.  When not at his drawing table he enjoys running in the park, petting other people’s dogs and separating quarters from the rest of his spare change.
